Why have a body MOT?
Your body is like an engine, and just like a car, an MOT and regular service is essential to ensure it runs smoothly and at its optimum level. The best place to start is by having an MOT at City Therapy, where we will highlight where things are possibly going wrong and in need of a service and fine tuning. What does the BODY MOT consist of?
The BODY MOT consists of a simple 10 point process that covers the following:
• Skeletal & Spinal Postural Assessment
This assessment aims to look at your current postural alignment. Our Therapists will check the spinal curvatures, shoulders, hips, knees and even the arches of your feet! This thorough examination can highlight possible postural misalignments that could be causing unnecessary problems such as back pain, spinal conditions such as scoliosis, tension, stress, headaches and even bowel movement irregularities.
• Height & Weight
How many of us actually know how tall we are and exactly how much we weigh? Most of us say something like, “I think I’m about 12 stone” or “I’m about 5’10” It is important to know correct height and weight so we can work out other processes in the BODY MOT!
• Blood Pressure (BP)
Checking blood pressure can highlight if it is high, low or normal. A BP check consists of systolic & diastolic blood pressure. Systolic BO checks the pressure on the beat of the heart (contraction of the heart) and Diastolic BP checks the pressure in between the beats.
High BP has now been linked with cardiovascular disease such as angina, stroke or heart attack also kidney failure and damaged sight.
Low BP is also linked with strokes. Common symptoms of low BP is feeling faint and dizziness, especially when moving from a sitting or lying to standing position.
• Lung function Test
This test is carried out with a peak flow meter which measures peak expiratory flow (PEF), the exhalation of the lungs. Doing this assessment can highlight possible asthmatic or lung function problems.
• Body Mass Index (BMI)
This is a statistical assessment based on a person’s height to weight ratio. It is a useful tool to estimate a healthy body weight.
• Body Fat Analysis
City Therapy is able to calculate how much fat you are storing. This is a very useful tool as the dangers of too much fat in our body can lead to heart disease and strokes. By determining how much fat you are storing can help get you back on the road to a healthy heart and body.
• Body Muscle Composition
How much of your weight is muscle? We can calculate this percentage you are storing. Having this figure can allow for accurate advice on how to improve or what you can do to maintain it.
• Body Hydration
This is one of the most important checks we do because up to 75% of our body is water! By checking hydration levels we can determine if your body is properly hydrated. Low hydration levels cause tiredness, headaches, migraines, mood swings, loss of concentration, muscular aches and pains and more.
• Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR)
RMR is the amount of energy expended while at rest. IE. When a person is awake but only using energy to function the most basic needs such as breathing, lung function etc. By analysing this we can determine just how many calories your body needs to stay alive and function normally.
What happens following my BODY MOT?
Following your assessment all your results will be recorded onto an MOT card which will be duplicated. We will retain one of the cards and the other is for you to keep. We will also give you advice in any areas that may have been highlighted throughout the BODY MOT.
